Message From The Principal

Welcome to Detroit Cristo Rey High School!

The mission of Detroit Cristo Rey High School is alive and visible every day in our hallways. Students here are given the opportunity to excel academically and individually during their Cristo Rey career. Many other high schools talk about preparing students for college and the workplace, but at Detroit Cristo Rey High School we actually do it!

Our rigorous college prep curriculum prepares students for the challenges of college, while our unique Corporate Work Study Program provides students with real world work experiences. After four years at Detroit Cristo Rey, students will have gained the academic skills to succeed in college and have four years of corporate work experience to add to their resumes. In addition, our graduates are provided ongoing support as they transition into college.

Every school year starts out with a new and fresh feeling. Education in an online environment may look and feel different, but we are still excited to begin and create a positive start for another great year!

Over the summer, teachers prepared for virtual learning by creating synchronous and asynchronous lesson plans. In addition, grade level teams developed a rotational block delivery schedule combining Live (synchronous) and On Your Own (asynchronous) lessons to help students manage their time.

One difference between last spring and this fall is that we are not in a shutdown restriction. The building is open and teachers are in their classrooms delivering live instruction, recording video lessons, holding office hours, and contacting parents. If needed, students may be asked to come to the school for extra support, tutoring, meeting with counselors, or for small group activities. We have also created additional parent engagement tools to help their child succeed both academically and socially.

Regardless of how chaotic the outside world may seem, we are confident we have created a safe and rigorous curriculum for our students to excel this semester. We remain hopeful that we can return to in-person learning in early 2021.
